I am interested in learning about Star Wars. Please dont spoil the plot. What could you guys tell me about the movies and which one should i watch first, movie # 4 or movie # 1? I have seen some episodes but never really paid much attention. Due to the increase of jokes from many shows (ie Family Guy and Robot Chicken), I am wanting to try to comprend them. Without spoiling the plot, can you guys help me a little? Thanks in advanced. I will rate with best answer.

start from the begggining. At least that way you see the story line from beggining to end.

You can start with episodes # 4-6, however, the plot will make a lot more sense if you watch them in chronological order. If you start with Episode 1, then you will see how the republic turns into the empire, how the characters in the older movies came to be (like how Darth Vader got that way), etc, etc. I would recommend watching them in chronological order, start with Episode 1. Even though the first ones I saw were Episode 4-6, as soon as Episode 3 came out on video, I watched them in order just to see, and the story flows very well when you watch them like that.

Well, there is alot to know that I can not type out. It's more of a spectatular sight to see for one's self. It starts out with a hero in the beginning that at the end becomes the main villain. That isn't one of the best parts of the film, so that is why I do not consider that a spoiler of the plot.

Since 2000, they have made 3 more movies to the series. Apparantly, they were suppose to be the beginning part of the series. They must have forgot some story plot information in the 70s and felt like adding it in the turn of the century.

It is a great series to view and admire. If you do happen to watch them, it would be best to watch them in order so you understand the plot.

Hmm....I would watch Star Wars the Original first...but thats because I'm of that generation. It introduces you to Luke and Leia as young people/adults.

I guess to get the story in ORDER..you would start with Phantom Menace, watch the next 2 "newer" episodes, (which introduces you to the history before Luke et al come along and sets up the battle between the Good and the Bad).....and then watch Star Wars, Empire and Return of the Jedi.

I just think the the last trilogy (technically the 1st part of the saga) ruins the magic of the original trilogy.

Even though they did 4-6 back in the 70s and 80s 1-3 is supposed to be the first ones. You should watch them in that order if you have not seen any of them. Of course thay are all pretty long and you will about 6 hours to watch them!

Start with #4. The characters in 4-6 are much more interesting, and so learning their backstories/family histories in the newer movies will be cool. Plus, 4-6 are just better movies, so you're more likely to WANT to watch the new ones.

Plus, if you're watching them to understand other references, it can't hurt to watch them in the same order that everyone else did :)

Im with allusian_fields, i mean you do know a bit about the SW saga, so you know the movies were released out of chronological order, watch them as they were released. Its not storyline correct, but thats how the rest of the world saw them and how some of the jokes come about.

Start with #4.
