Well there are many things that you would have seen different from back then until today. One of these would be technology. You may know that they did not have computers to do labor for them. Most of the citizens of America were farmers and contributed to the work force to produce crops for Britain, which at the time, had America as a terrortory of there own.
Another thing you might have seen was a small group of conspirators against Britain planning to make a republic. This is what we call the United States today. If Americans caught conspirators today, either death or a life long sentence would be the punishment. I guess we fear a revolution after a revolution.
Another thing you might have seen would have been slavery. During Colonial times, slaves were a cheap work force that many Americans did not have. There were less than 500,000 citizens of the colonies of America, so work was scarce. The British Government taxed the colonies on everything, including the Stamp Act, which made citizens have to buy and put stamps on everything shipped. Since then, slavery has been banned all across the United States and many civil right movements have opened American's eyes.
These were pretty much the basic changes, although there were thousands more. I hope this answers your question.
