If he was something you bought (or it was purchased for you) the store/breeder would be your best source of information, since none of us here can see what you have. Beyond that, you might check in one of these links:

If it's something that was found, it might be best (for both of you) to return it to where it was found. Most states have laws about keeping native wildlife, especially if the tortoise is an endangered or threatened species.

Hmm.Where to start?I totally agree that if it was found in the wild, return it there.In the least, check with a reputable pet store if you don't feel like it is indigenous to your area.If you purchased it somewhere,shame on you and the seller!Both are negligent in providing the best care for the critter. It is super important that you identify this animal ASAP. You must provide proper diet for him to survive. By the time they show signs of sickness,it's very hard to reverse.Please be responsible and act quickly.The origin of the animal is the key to providing a healthy life.
