Have you looked into Greek mythology, since you don't want the usual, common fare? ;) Here are a few of my personal favorites:

Penelope
Iris
Hermione
Daphne
Chloris
Callista/Kallisto
Calliope
Ariadne
Ianthe
Xanthe
Althea/Alethea
Antigone
Clio
Eunomia
Helene

*** also Chloe, Zoe, Phoebe, etc., but they're rather common.

Evander/Euandros
Leander/Leandros - and Leo is one of those short, sweet nickname options ;)
Castor/Kastor
Pollux
Argus/Argos
Hector/Hektor
Damon
Icarus/Ikaros
Linus/Linos

*** in case it isn't clear, for many I've put the more familiar Latinized form, followed by the original Greek.

Just a few examples of less common choices that might fit the bill. ;) Here's a link to some Greek names in general that might also help: http://www.behindthename.com/nmc/gre.php

My friend showed me a pic of his new addition to the family...his name is Michael Achilles.
Or something along those lines...the dad is really big on Greek names.

Achilles?
