I don't consider it cheating at all. In fact, I think it's a smart idea to use past exams to help you prepare for a current one. Instead of using the same problems on each exam, the teacher should just use the same types of problems, but ones that differ from the ones given on previous exams.

It is not cheating to use past tests. Many fraternal organizations keep a file of exams from courses. Some professors use the same exams for more than 1 course.

I think that if someone does that, they should get in trouble. It is basically saying that someone has answers from another test, and they are using it to "help" them. It is wrong to do it. All you do is study the stuff you get that week or year, depending when the old exam was, and study that material.

As long as you are only using the past exams to study from you are not doing anything wrong, it is like taking the road test if you didn't pass it the 1st time but you know what you did wrong well you get the chance to correct it.

If you already took the class and are using your own tests to study from then I don't think you could get in trouble for it.
It's laziness on the part of the teachers to give the same tests over and over again, barely changed.

Depends... would the past exams be accessible to everyone? For example were the given out from the teacher? Then yes, of course it is ethical. If they were given from the older sister though, and no one else had them, then no.
Basically if it keeps the person on equal ground with the rest of the people then it is ethical.

no, i use past tests to study all the time, its a very effective method
and if the teacher did consider it cheating she would of made a point about it or made new questions, obviously she doesnt mind and just wants to be sure you know the material and by studying past exams you are learning the material she is trying to teach

I wouldn't announce to the world (or even a classmate!) that I was doing this, but if you took it once and failed and then the same test was used again later, I don't think it's your fault. If the teacher didn't feel he/she had the need to change the test, and if he/she didn't specifically tell you not to use the old tests to study off, then I think you're okay. Again, I wouldn't go announcing it to any classmate...or any of your friends in other classes because they might tell on you.

I think it is up to the teacher. If they have a big issue with it they should have several tests. One of mine had 4 different ones, and he rotated them through the years and classes. Ya never knew what to study so you had to study everything.

It's being a serious student. In my classes in college, I used past exams to study from that the professors gave to me. Even if they used questions from there, there are many questions they DIDN'T use.
