I am 19 and want to start taking birth control. I have heard that some of them can make you lose weight and get rid of acne. I don't want it as much for protecting me from getting pregnant, but I do want to good pill for when I do decide to use it against pregnancy. I want something good, but my boyfriend said that his sister was on the pill, and now she is having problems conceiving. What do I do, and what do I take?

I don't have a problem with acne and weight, I don't want it for protection, I want it to help my periods. I have severe periods, and I need something to help them. I know though that some pills make you gain weight.

Thats a good question. Here are some options and side effects. Pill and patch: yes some have lost the ability to concieve from the pill. Some like me have gone threw a massive dangerous bleeding from taking the pill. Head to toe in blood that just wouldnt stop. The third day chest pains and also heart stopping. After that I gave up on the pill and told my doctor the discovery, and where she could put those pills :-D. The patch has been proven to have caused death. And possibly the pill in the death catagory. There is the IUD method that burns the lining in there, chemicle burns, possiblity of it messing up your ability to produce, along with obnormal bleeding. Condoms: they are really good as long as you know what your looking for. Checking a condom and using one is as follows. Before getting a condom think of a few good brands: lifestyles, and trojans are popular and good. Watch out for expiry dates dont buy anything that has a yr or less to go before expiry, pick something with a longer expirey date. *condoms loose their affectiveness in time and about a yr to go seems to go easier than one that has 2 or more years to go. Pinching tip of condom *carefully if you hasve nails. Pinching tip with one hand and using the other to bring down. It gets rid of air in the condom, if u leave air in there and attempt some funny business you'll hear and feel a loud pop *like a popping balloon*. Meaning it just popped. Look at it before it's opened. Hold to light look for any holes big or tiny. If there is a hole throw out and find another one. Some have spermicide it's ok but in time with it just sitting in condom for months on the shelf and then months on ur shelf it can degrade the condom. Dont use oil based liquids on condoms *wears the condom out easy enough for it to brake.
If it sure sounds like alot to remember I still find that a condom is the best way to go unless you have a boyfriend that brakes condoms easy *had one of those*. But with condom use you wont lose the ability to produce when you are finially ready.
Pill from personal use I can say for sure that the pill can affect the attempts to produce. It took months of trying to have my first child, which was a miscarry. Then about a month or two after the miscarry I have this one. Who is still alive and doing well. The pill also caused ovarian cyst, which could of possibly messed up my odds.

You probably should talk to your ob-gyn. I don't think their is any proven studies that show infertility problem result from birth control pills. I took ortho-novum. I had three kids within 2 months of stopping the pills. No problems with fertility! (Wasn't even trying with the last one!) My daughters take Yasmin to help with the acne. To tell you the truth, I don't know that it did much for the acne, but fortunately, neither has gotten pregnant!! As far as the weight goes, none of us has ever noticed any weight changes with our pills. I'm currently taking seasonale (a period every three months). It took about a year before the periods actually stopped coming every month, but I love the seasonale now! Good luck-and talk to a doctor!

I would suggest Orthocycline birth control pills. I was prescribed these by my dermatologist to help my bad acne problem. I believe I also took these for birth control after our first child had been born, but I'm not certain about that. My first two children were less than 14 months apart. It's possible that I waited until after my second child was born. Good luck.

You should consult your ob/gyn. However, I and a few others I know take yasmin. I haven't had any problems as far as weight gain, mood swings, and pain goes. If she is having trouble conceiving it may be because she hasn't been off the pill long enough. It could also be many other things, including an issue with the boyfriend of his sister's sperm. So, don't panic, they don't make you permanently infertile.

the chances of having trouble concieving after being on the pill are fairly low. chances are she would've had trouble before hand. it does take awhile sometimes for the hormone alteration to go back to levels prior to taking the pill. some people get pregnant right away but some can take longer. one of the pills we've had good success with is ortho-tricycline. another newer one that looks promising is YAZ. both seem to work well with acne and YAZ for alot of our clients doesn't seem to fool around with their moods as much as more of the older pills. it is best to discuss all this with your doctor and make sure that the pill you choose is not going to cause any health problems; ie- YAZ shouldn't be used with some types heart problems.

Ortho Tri-Cyclen is good! And that is always a side affect of birth control. But the pills do help regulate your moods, acne and even some cravings. Talk to your doctor and he can or she can tell you your best option. I have had my best experience with this brand but you may not you never know till you try it.

I wouldn't take anything. Use good timing and condoms. Birth control and go bad quick. My sister in law was on the pill it has been 5 years since she took a pill and she can't have kids it stopped her period completely. Also you really have to look into it. I have an article of a lady who never had a history in her family of blood clots but the pill she was saying said if you do don't take it , but it still caused blood clots in her neck then into her brain and the doctors couldn't get it to stop. I'm not trying to scare you. But she died leaving her kids and husband behind. The pill controls your life really and all you have to do is be smart and know when your in the clear. You don't need a pill.

There could be many reasons why his sister is having problems conceiving, it may not be the pill she was on (it may be, it may not be).
I am on Kariva, and I've had no side affects and have been on it for 1 1/2 years.

Yaz, but also use a condom just in case. Birth control pills don't protect against STDs.

Yaz is really good. It shortens your period when your on it, to about 2-3 days, and gets rid of bloating too. And 99% of the time, it is effective. Hope it helps!
