Does President Abbas of Fatah represent the Palestinian people? If he does, than why is he against Hamas being involved in any future elections? Is he afraid that Hamas might win the elections?

No President Abbas of Fatah does not represent the Palestinian people but US and Israel governments regarded Al Fatah is moderate and Hammas is fundamentalist and fanatic who oppose peace negotiation with Israel.Hamas has atrong policy.US and Israel government regarded Hamas as terrorist organization. But in the last general election the majority of Palestinian people supported Hamas. So there is a war between Hamas and Fatah.US and Israel government support Fatah although the minority..They are glad in the situation of no peace between Hamas and Fatah because it will make a weak front among Palestinian people.

Peace to you...

If we start labelling every Palestinian leaders as Fatah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, etc. and ask if they represent the Palestinian people, then the obvious answer is NO!

They don't represent the Palestinian people's desires and aspirations because they represent only their group's perspective on what are the Palestinians' desires and aspirations. Palestinians are diverse and a multi-faceted society of people. To make one group like Fatah, to represent the entire society is unfair and unjust. Unless all Palestinian groups are invited to the table and work as a team, the true face of Palestinian aspirations will never be seen.

But to mention President Abbas as a Palestinian without any labelling and to say that he represents the Palestinian people is true and correct as every Palestinian is. Each Palestinian is a representative of that Palestinian struggle for survival, for identity, for freedom, for liberty, for peace and for the belongingness to the Palestinian land.

NO, President Abbas is not a representative of Palestinian people as a man from Fatah, but YES as a Palestinian regardless of groupings...

Dear

Fatah used to represent Palestinians and now it is a Question which should be answered by yourself.

Fatah Organization was the First so called Terrorist Organization formed by Yasser Arafat and a woman Terrorist blew up and killed Israelis and later they even killed Olympic Atheletic Team members.

It was ongoing and later Yasser Arafat became a hidden alley to Israel and the so called Mujahid instead of waiting for the forty virgins in heaven as said by anti Muslims married to a Israeli mother of four children fifty years of age and he died mysteriously and now that Israeli lady with millions of money left to her by Yasser Arafat has married Algerian Prince.

How Yasser Arafat had those millions in his account is a question. Was that money not given in charity to Palestinians? So Israel has already conquered Palestine and now Algeria is on the table.

Palestinians are oppressed people living on the charity given by USA and Europe and Israel too. Hammas cannot survive without the support of Iran might be, even Arabs do not come forward as they too are slaves of USA and Europe with the Titles of Kings, Emirs and Presidents.

Now is that Palestine is divided into two divisions one ruled by Hammas and other by Fatah, the settlement is speeding up by Israel by giving away part of Jerusalem and to isolate Hammas.

In one of the Indian news paper it was said that Mahmood Abbas is Not a Muslim and the Fatah fighters too are not religious. So let us see the outcome of this High Politics and divide and rule game and see what these Super Powers throw as a Charity to Palestinians during settlement..

By the way I am not a Palestinian and I am just a keen Observer.

May God Bless Palestinian People to attain their rights and Home land and Let Peace Prevail in Our World, Amen.

I don't live in the Palestinian Territories, so I can't be so presumptuous as to answer Yes or No. But when the elctions were held, it was evident that the Palestinian people were ready to cash in their chips with Hamas, since Israel refused to intitiate any real progress with Fatah. The Palestinian support of Hamas was and is a result of Israel's refusal to bargain in good faith.
However since the U.S. holds considerable stakes in the creation of a future Palestinian state, Abbas (seen by the U.S. as "moderate") might be the preferable bargaining chip at this point.

well let us say he was elected by palestinians,it was free elections and he won
why he against 7amas,is there an answer to that?
i would say there is
but let us look at the elections ,parliment,it was free,it was managed well, all the world wanted it,the reason was they were sure fat7 would easily won,7amas would have 30 -40 members but majority will be fat7
but that was not the result of election ,pple in palestine were fed up with corruption and was waiting to say that
the arabs, the world, and fat7 started working the very first minute that 7amas would fail, they give a maximum of three months which did not happen
fat7 would not go to national government with 7amas ,they thought it was a game of chess
not lifes, pple, cause, state, degnity, they worked from the very first minute to the fall of 7amas]
no money
not allowing money
no media for government,TV only covers fat7
no police all were under fat7 control
why is that
it is the same as in most of third word countries
president for life time, and when he is dead he pass it over to son
pluss corruption as long as the same pple in power so no one would uncover
add to that the west is happy with the no war no peace situation
so all helps to deal with things far away from the election results
