I want to make a website that can get a lot of people on it. I want to earn money by putting ads on it, but I don't know what kind of a website to make. Any ideas?

Yes! Create a website advertising small, undiscovered businesses in your area. Put in little one-liners describing the type of business and what they feature (e.g., "B&B Grill - fine sandwiches, homey atmosphere, great salads; 1234 5th St; 987-6543")
List the kinds of places folks from out-of-town might never find otherwise. Places known only by "the locals". Places the tourists would LIKE to know about.
List deserving small businesses. List their websites, if they have them. Show photos, especially of their signs, so folks will recognize them on the street.
Give a map.
Give categories.
Provide an index of categories.
Link to and from businesses. Promote!
