I am interested in buying a car from a man in Utah, and I live in Massachusetts. He told me that the only type of payment that he would accept at the moment, was Western Union, but he also told us that our money was under the eBay Protection Plan. He said that he will not be able to touch our transfered money until we receive that car. My question, is how do Western Union and the eBay Protection Plan work together, to avoid this man taking my money and me receiving no car?

E-Bay DOES NOT have a payment protection plan. PayPal does, but that ONLY applies if you pay though PayPal. ANYONE that will only accept payment by Western Union is 99% likely to be running a SCAM. Even if it is legit, I would NEVER buy a car without seeing the car in person.

Dont do it and you should report it to ebay. These are spoof emails. I had a situation with game tickets where they wanted me to do western union. Ebay and Wetern Union advise for this not to be done. Paypal is the best way and you are also protected.

eBay has a vehicle purchase protection plan that covers you up to $20,000 however they do not cover Western Union payments so NEVER send them. If he can't accept anything else then I'd move on....
