how could nobody pick shirley temple for this question is beyond me !
i wont mention humphrey bogart or james cagney seeing as they like laurel +hardy +the marx bros would be classed
as heroes !

Not only do I remember black and white films. I can go back further to non talking films known as silent films or further back still to the magic lantern basically a slide show.
My favourites were the comedy duos Laurel and Hardy and Abbott and Costello.
