I do think the war on drugs can be won, but noone is trying to win the war on drugs. I heard a Activist say, " that if we can spend Billions of dollars to send a Man to the moon, or do studies in outterspace, we can stop drugs from entering into the USA".
I Believe this peson is right, but the drug problem is bigger
than we can handle. Be honest there are polictics involved in this drug thing. There are people making money behind the scenes, and the main ones that are being effected by it is the poor people. The only thing we got left is God, and we got to depend on God to keep our children, and family away from the effects of this evil. Will the war on drugs ever be won? I
don't think so, there's too many people in power that's making money.

The war on drugs was lost here in UK when Margaret Thatcher as Prime minister scrapped the free NHS delivery of drugs to addicts here in UK.
Back in those days, if a person became addicted to any drug, all they ever needed to do was register with their doctor as a drug addict and they would then receive a daily 'fix'. Problem solved.
This or a similar method has been employed in the Netherlands over a number of years resulting in a very big reduction of addiction in the population. An addict gets a fix but only if he/she agrees to come off the drug and do cold turkey with help and assistance etc. It works.
Also in the Netherlands they do not brand marijuana as a dangerous drug, indeed customers can openly buy and smoke it in shops.
The attitude that the drugs barons can be broken up and destroyed out there in the field as it were, is cobblers.
My own personal belief is that far too many people at the top are involved in the drugs business. One only has to gaze across the vast poppy fields of Afghanistan to realise that the drugs trade is not being addressed at source. Indeed one could argue that it is being positively encouraged.
The British Army certainly pay scant attention to the poppy fields of Afghanistan and many of our soldiers are now heavily addicted to cocaine, a biproduct of the poppy.
Where do they get their cocaine? From the construction companies, that's where. Who owns these construction companies? The gang masters at the top, that's who.

420 BILLION that is with a BIG B. This fight will never stop or slow down, sorry people we have to live with this problem for the rest of our natural born lives! One more thought on this topic.....the drug cartels can and have made the offer to wipe out the United States National Debt with one check and our wonderful country refused the offer. Now think on that for a minute. Why did "it" REFUSE? The catch was to leave the cartels along so that they would do business as "usual". Billions of dollars people,..... the banks will not stop the flow of money in all of the countries that these drugs flow in, sorry again people.....another pill we have to swallow on this topic. To stop this problem......1.) At least 3 aircraft carriers. 2.) 100,000 soldiers with supplies, 3.) The will to stop the madness from ourselves....we have to make the first step as whole country, the odds of that happening? 4.) Zero

my opinion , as someone that has gone through a drug and alchohol program is, treatment programs, that be put in place , in plain view, in every city, make sure they are funded , and then legalize everything.take the money out of it, if there is no market, there are no drugs , only by making them illegal
is there a market, supply and demand.and this may sound crazy , but after all these years, it has not done a damn thing.
I thought it was bad in my generation, but you should hear the horror stories my kids tell me about the drug use at school.
kids are doing cocaine in class, never in my wildest dreams.
the bottom line --rehab works for those who want it.you may have to take a step back to move forward . the system has failed us.........addiction is an illness, a sickness of the body and the soul..he hit it right on the head '' a crime out of things that are not a crime'' smart man.......

It may be unpopular what I am going to say, but:no, it cannot be won.
Why?
Because the drugs prohibition violates freedom, that's all, and it will never be obeyed in the country who claims to be founded on liberty.
Yes, it is a freedom of choice. Freedom actually also means
the right to behave stupidly, to harm yourself (but not the others! - your freedom ends up where the other people's freedom begins) and it is not the government's responsibility to decide on behalf of people what is best - or not - for them.
And, to stop some unnecessary questions in advance: I do not take drugs, nor I sell them. I do not need them, but I do not need a policeman to know that.

420 Billion over 35 yeas is $12 billion a year - hardly a war more like a conflict.
It is impossible to win the war on drugs when California encourages teenagers with back pain to enjoy a medical cards to smoke pot. It is nearly impossible to win such a war when city councils instruct police departments to ignore calls on kids smoking pot, and states make the use of pot (the gateway drug) an infraction not worth noting on anyone's record.
Yes the war can be won; but the war is not being fought.

LIKE PROHIBITION OF ALCOHOL,SUPPLY AND DEMAND MADE IT PROFITABLE TO SMUGGLE IT.LEGALIZATION TOOK THE PROFIT OUT.
MANY HAVE SAID THE LEGALIZATION OF DRUGS WOULD DO THE SAME.LET THE DRUG MANUFACTURES MAKE THE DRUGS AND LET DOCTORS PRESCRIBE THEM OUT.TAKE THE PROFIT OUT AND THE DANGER OF POISONED DRUGS AWAY.THE SMUGGLING WILL STOP.EDUCATE AND HELP THE ADDICTS OFF THEIR COURSE.THE CRIME SIDE OF DRUGS GOES AWAY
