A lot of early 1970s Funkadelic has heavy guitar of close to Hendrix standard, courtesy of Eddie Hazel, and yet it was recognisably funk-based in terms of its groove.
Oh and Limp Bizkit!***
***No, not really.

Linkin Park are rap metal, so most of their work, like Numb/Encore and In The End are excellent examples. Also bands like the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Rage Against The Machines are also rap metal and have a great sound.

Why don't you give Metallica's 'S+M' cd a listen. Metallica playing a collection of their finest with the backing of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. The song 'Nothing Else Matters' is particularly stunning. Two genres of music from opposite ends of the spectrum that meld together beautifully :o)

Feel Good Inc. - Gorillaz
Maybe it's not the most successful combination ever (it has a distinct rock part and a distinct rap part) but it's an awesome song.

What about Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé doing 'Barcelona'? Rock meets grand opera. I'm not sure I like it but a lot of people think it worked.

ANYTHING by Rage Against the Machine.
It's hard rock mixed with hip-hop/rap lyrics and singing style; rapcore, new age metal
They're kind of hard, their guitar solos are pretty sweet.
Most of their songs contain swearing (Killing in the Name had "F--k you, I won't do what you tell me" 16 times at the end, followed by "Motherf--ker")
