You know I looked into underclocking my Vid card if I was just surfing and didn't need to go full blast and wanted to save a little electricity and heat.

Actually underclocking increased the heat of my Nvidia card!!
and I asked Nvidia and they did not recommend underclocking.

but try it and check your own temps.

You can use a program called COOLBITS. You can download & install it off the internet from a website called softpedia. Start by increasing the core a few points at a time & untill you get artifacts then decrease 5 points. Then do the same with the memory. After that test it by playing the most intense game you have & make sure its all OK. Keep an eye of the cards temp as it will run hot due to the overclock. If it runs to hot decrease the timeing of both core & memory. I myself dont overclock anything in my rig as it decreases the life of all the parts.

You need an overclocking software, like Riva tuner. ATI Tool also works. I'm using VDO Tool that came with my factory overclocked 8600GT (w/ Zalman cooler). You overclock the core first then the memory. Here's what the 8600GT could do:

theres a program out there called rivatuner. its a easy program that allows ocing of nvidia gpus.
