Yes.
Those same weapons may be used against you. That is why guns are not allowed in most cases.

A box cutter is not a non lethal weapon as it can cause serious damage to the skin and under lying tissue. If used on the neck area a person can bleed to death in a matter of minutes.

The only case I can think of where these would be of help is if you are in a fight for your life. In other words if someone is trying to kill you. Then you could use them. And only then.

If you don't protect yourself who's going to?

Here you are, alone in a dark parking lot because you worked late and someone treys to "do you in" in one form or another. Do you think there is going to be conversation? Don't think so!

Before you walk out that door in the dead of night you better be prepared for anything. Even a set of car keys, between each finger on your hand is better then nothing at all. This just may save your life.

Pepper spray is a possible means to at least get into your car (if you have one), lock the doors and lay rubber to get out of there if you don't panic. It would be a good thing to practice what you might have to do. Two cans of pepper spray would be even better.

Box cutter would be a lethal weapon, just like a knife. That's a decision only you can make. However, the perp most likely will be carrying something lethal. Makes you wonder what the court would decide in regards to the victom. I know how I would vote for the victom ... not quilty.

Of course there is justification.

Everyone has to deal with reality. Reality may not be a comfortable place to be, but it's there.

It's never morally wrong to defend yourself. However there are some places where it may get you into legal trouble. Just remember that the degree of force you use should be in proportion to the threat you face. If you decide to carry a weapon you must know the laws in your area concerning its use and you really need to have the skill and the confidence to use it properly or you'll likely find yourself in a worse position than if you were not armed at all.

I never go anywhere without a four inch folding knife, mostly because it's a useful tool in so many other ways. Any time I think I might need to carry something a little more deadly I stop and carefully consider whether I really need to go wherever it is that's dangerous enough to require such measures.

A box cutter is a lethal weapon, I wouldn't recommend carrying it. Especially if the bad guy gets it away from you, now you are in danger.

Pepper spray, on the other hand, is a good idea. If more people carried it, criminals would think twice about mugging someone. If you do decide to carry pepper spray, take a class and learn how to use it properly.

There were times that I carried pepper spray, and certain other weapons for self-protection.. Unlike some people think, I always managed to control myself, and never once pulled them out to use them just because I got angry at someone. That's the difference between criminals and decent people. Decent people know right from wrong, and use self-control, criminals do not.

Suppose you carry a box-cutter and then get angry at someone in the crowd on the street. You will turn into a criminal and kill the person. So what's the benefit for society from you carrying a box-cutter? Or do you think criminals and "good citizens" are genetically different from each other and can never become the opposite of what they are at the moment?
