Car problems?

Ok my car will be driving just fine and all the sudden it will just stop NOT DIE put I can't go anywhere I push the pedal all the way down and the car won't move so I have to shut it off and start it again. What's wrong?

No I have checked that and changed the oil.

It is a 97 Pontiac Grand Am with 213,000 miles on it. All my fluids are full and changed.

Change the transmission filter and clean out the pan! When the car is turned off the trash will sink to the bottom of the pan.
