I am planing on conducting an experiment for my science fair whether or not horses will have a certain preference for different colors of hay. Anyway, I am wondering whether or not human food coloring is safe for horses (they wouldnt need to eat very much at all, just a bite). I would put some food coloring in a bottle with water, and spray the hay to make it a certain shade. I am planning on checking with at least 2 vets to make sure that this will be safe (depending on which food coloring i use). However, I dont have a horse, so i dont know any vets, could i just look up in the yellow pages of a phonebook and call a vet and ask them, or email a vet, or would that annoy them? How can i contact a vet, and if you happen to be a vet and know the answer to my question that would be great too. thanks!

I don't think its posionous. My horse at my popsicle and he didn't get sick.

As far as finding a vet, look under Equine in your phone book. Vets generally don't mind answering questions for you

Of course it is. That's where you get the horse of a different color.

If it is safe for you, then it should be safe for your horses.

But most horses go on smell rather than colour.
