The mayans predicted that the world would end on december 21 2012, and it turns out there's gonna be an eclipse on that exact date. Could they be getting at something? Although i've heard that they didn't actually say the world would end, but its just the end of a period of time on the calendar. is that true?

The world will not end in 2012. This earth has many generations of life left in it. Just because a primitive people thought something doesn't mean it's true. We no longer believe the world is flat or that the sun and stars revolve around the earth. Current science is not predicting the end of the world.

There are quite a bit of signs pointing to this. The mayan calander ends on 2012 and they have predicted every eclipse since their arrivals to their dissaperances. In 2012 their calendar just...nothing else. Our own computer code that has successfully predicted every disaster that has ever happened to us stops on 2012 and predicts extinction. Though my personal belief is that these are wrong. The mayans said that Dec. 21, 2012 is the end of a cycle and the beginning of a new one. The end of the world has been predicted ever since man can remember. The dates of destruction come and go with not even so much as a meteorite or comet inpact. Don't fret. You're safe.

Have you read any of the objective information on this? There is a lot available.

The Mayans did not predict the world would end in 2012. That year is the end of their calendar, not the world.
They said that there would be a major change, an end to the current world cycle (but they don't define that very well).
That major change/end of the current cycle could mean anything - the discovery of life on another planet, the invention of a new power source, could be anything.
In the Mayan past, when a world cycle ended they simply started a new calendar.

Actually the MAYANS have ended with their predictions but talking on the serious part, there is no logical reasoning for the same.
I suppose its some thing like one's dream as u r not certain that it will happen but it can.
Stay alive n watch out.

The end of the world has been predicted so many times it's gotten down-right boring.

If the world as we know it ends in 2012, there's no sense in worrying about it. And if it doesn't, we still have a planet to take care of.

I don't think there's any scientific data that would indicate this. However, we could experience the end of society as we know it if something goes disastrously wrong with technology or a big war starts.

It would certainly upset the British Olympic committee!

It's just an educated guess. Is there any more things to prove it's right?

Don't believe the hype. If there was substance behind it, it would be well known.
