A will is a statement of things that you wish to be done after you`ve gone. It dosen`t have to contain legacy`s especially if you have none. It can dictate the order of service and any other thing that you wish in order that your loved ones can remember you. Me I`m having a brass band preceeding the cortege and a good piss up after.

A will is your last will and testament, outlining how you wish your property to be divided upon your death. In English law a will MUST stand provided it was made at a time when you were "of sound mind", was not made under duress, no person who witnessed it stands to benefit from it, and no part of it is malicious (such as the exclusion of spouse, sibling, offspring etc for vindictive reasons.)

Aside from division of your property and money, you may also stipulate who you would like to look after your children, though this may not necessarily be enforced, for example if a mother "wills" the care of her children to her parents while the father still lives (can be construed as vindictive and open to challenge.)

All other requests of division of assets and care of children MUST stand where there is no reason to challenge them. More unusual requests, such as the planting of a tree, place of burial etc, are possibly best arranged by simply telling the people closest to you that this is your wish. Also, leaving notes to this effect. Someone will go through your stuff and find it and those who love you will surely comply with this wish.

The best way to make a will is to organise it via a solicitor, the most expensive option, but it will be above board and they will store the document and make sure it is complied with.

Another option is the "DIY" will - a standard form is available in supermarkets and stationers complete with instructions on how to make the will, who may witness it, and what to do with it when the time comes to read it.

Anyone who owns a home, or has a significant amount in the bank, ought to make a will as a matter of urgency to make sure it all goes to who you want it to. Without the will, intestacy laws apply, meaning your spouse will get everything. If not married, your oldest child will get everything. If you have no children, your parents will get everything. If you have no surviving parent, your oldest sibling will get everything, and so on. Of course, in the case of dying intestate, the person who legally is entitled to the estate ought to distribute the estate in a fair way as the deceased would have wished, rather than keep it for themselves. It is, of course, the little things which are important. Things like photographs, wedding rings etc.

You ask how to make a will in the UK? Remember Scotland has its own legal system, I could only say what I know about England, maybe Whipass knows how the Scots do it?

a will is a legal statement, of a person's wishes conserning the disposal of his/her property , after death; the document containing , who will have access , to your belongings, how you would like , these things to be divided, this is something you do in your right mind, you choose who you prefer to take care of your family, (children) and you can also have a living will in case you are an able to take care of your self and you need medical assistant such as feeding tubes, ventilators , you assign, a family member or a friend to see that your wishes will be taking care off. Elric this is some thing good to do, i mean it's sad to talk about it but one day we all will leave this place, My baby sister husband got sick and just died, it's so sad they were planning to go back to panama to see my mom, they were planning to go to europe, they were decorating they new house for the xmas holidays , they had soo much plan together and he didn't make it he left my baby sister all alone, with a big mansion with out evensaying good by, because he went into a coma before the doctors could operate on him to save his life, this happens last year in the month of november and the family our family are still trying to hold on to one another. And every one in our family from 18 and up we all have written out a last will. we learned in a sad way that we are here today and tomorrow we are gone. so age doesn't have any thing to do with this, we all just take care of each other and live a happy and good life. So you see you did a good thing, i just hope you are planning to live a long life like me and don't be so discourage, keep the good faith we need you a round so we all can continue to laugh, of your silly jokes and out- pouring questions, just hang in there 'The Sun is going to shine again. And Joy would come in the morning , thats what i beiieve.take care be bless.

A will is a document by which a person regulates the rights of others over his property or family after death. There is also a living will, also known as an advance health directive. It will usually covers specific directives as to the course of treatment that is to be taken by caregivers, or, in particular, in some cases forbidding treatment and sometimes also food and water, should the principal be unable to give informed consent ("individual health care instruction") due to incapacity.

You do not have to have any valuables/property/money etc to draw up a will

A will is how a deceased wishes his/her estate to be dealt with after death. Estate also means invaluable belongings and wishes eg burial cremation

If you have kids its a good idea to have some sort of will left in order for a guardian of your choice to be appointed

Wills can be written on the back of a *** packet if you like......

as long as there are two witnesses to verify your signature and they are not benefactors of the will

and as long as you are over 18 and of sound mind the will would be valid

A "Will" is the distribution of your assets, and property after your death.
Maybe what you are looking for is a "Living Will" or "Health Care Proxy" These are documents that are free to draw up, and they list your wishes as to what type of treatments etc you want or dont want. (Life support, ventilators, feeding tubes etc) In the event you are unable to make a decision, these papers, or the person you appoint your proxy makes medical decisions based on this paperwork.

Wanting certain things done counts too. A tree planted in your memory shouldn't be a problem.

Generally, a will is used only to determine what happens to your estate -- your property -- after you die.

You can specify that some of your money go to a particular organization that plants trees in your name -- but you generally cannot give other non-money/property related instructions.

you can buy one in the post office for about a fiver, as long as you write it and sign it, it's legally binding, just make sure it's somewhere it can be found!
