my car remote starter had a 30A fuse. but i only have 40A fuses. can i use that ? thanks

You can, but you could potentially damage something that the fuse was meant to blow.

Typically you can use a lower Amp fuse and not damage what the fuse was designed to protect. (Though the fuse may burn out, what it was intended to protect will be safe)

It doesn't take that long to get another 30A fuse. If it is a dead short in the wiring, then the fuse would blow quickly, most likely before it would damage the wires. It won't do the wires any good, though.

It is not worth the damage that you could do by using the larger size fuse, to make it worth your effort. To be honest, most likely, it won't do any damage. On the other hand, it would be possible that the car could catch fire on the other extreme. Just get the right fuse, if fact, get several, just in case the new ones blows, then you can use another fuse to help you trouble shoot the problem.

Rather not the wiring amp rating designates the max amp fuse, you stand a chance of burning the wiring.
