I just got married last December and am in the process of buying a house. I am also in school full time. As you can imagine, money is tight. Any good ideas for creative Christmas gifts for family and friends that are inexpensive? Thanks!!!!

The best presents you can give are those that are hand made. If you are very crafty person there is a lot out there.

I create home made photo albums and DVD's for my family. Each individual becomes them on a CD and also in form of an album. It takes some time but it's all worth it.

Last year I created a movie from scanning 389 family fotos in the scanner and uploaded it onto my computer. It was such fun seeing them all smiling and laughing whilst seeing these old photos.

make your own Christmas cards. Keep the glass containers with their lids from candles , you can reuse them to make home made goods. Like make a sheet of candy or cookies and present them in those cleaned candle glasses.

just be creative. good luck and enjoy married life and new house.

When we first got married we had a blended family of 7 children plus all of thier grandparents aunts and uncles. For Christmas we didn't want anyone to be left out so we made Cheerio Nut mix and put it into pretty tins the kids decorated and you can't even imagine the heartfelt warm returns all of the children received from their gifts to everyone. Since then we have made it a family tradition to give this gift and not once have we ever had a negative comment on it from any person. You could also put this mixture into a jar and tie it with pretty yarn for a Christmas theme. THe recipe is very easy:

4 cups Cheerios
2 Cups Rice Krispies
2 cups mixed nuts
2 cups M&Ms
1 Cup light corn syrup
1 Cup sugar
1-1/2 cups creamy peanut butter
1 tsp vanilla extract.

In a large bowl combine first 4 ingredients; set aside.
In a saucepan bring cornsyrup and sugar to a boil, stirring frequently. Remove from heat: stir in peanut butter and vanilla.Pour over cereal mixture and toss to coat evenly. Spread out on waxed paper until cool and then break into pieces and pack into jars, tins, boxes ect. Yield about 15 servings per mixture.

I hope this helps. remember everyone knows you are strapped for money and no one will appediate a thoughtful homemade gift than those close at heart.

Some good ideas are cards, they're very easy to make and inexpensive, people will love them. Some easy, inexpensive crafts can be found on FamilyFun.com and many people would love to get something homemade. I like to make PowerPoints for people on the computer. I make one with pictures and memories save them on a disk and hand them out. People seem to appreciate that. If you can't find anything good, the best thing to give them is to let them know you care about them. If you can't get them anything, they'll definatly understand!

Don't know where you live, but we always go to Christmas markets in some of the European cities (Brussels, Antwerp, Cologne).

You can buy some very cheap Christmas presents at these but, as they come from a different country, you can get away with it because of the novelty factor.

Our wedding day was in october, my husband was going to school, money was tight for us as well.
Instead of each family buying for his parents, we all went in together and got his parents something they really liked that they would have never bought for themselves.
We drew names for the rest of us and put a twenty dollar limit on each gift. Worked out really well and everyone was happy.

My son plays soccer right now, so we are going to scan his pictures into the computer when we get them and we will make copies and get some nice frames at the $ store. That and I am making fancy Christmas Cookies. You can find recipes that can be made ahead and the dough frozen to be made later.

even a card, if made yourself, can be great! make your own cards (just buy some inexpensive cardstock and fold in half, and add a stamp, and color it in. You can make them yourself for only about $1 each, and it is homemade!) Another idea is buying something small/cheap from the dollar store (a candle, notebook, pretty pens, etc)

Homemade cookies/cupcakes or a nice box of chocolates. Candles are also nice gifts.

Nothing is better than a gift someone made herself/himself.

I made one of my best friends vegan chocolate chip cookies (her favorite) and included the recipie because she'd never made them herself before.

For another couple, I made pistachio-coated truffles, 'cause they love chocolate and pistachios.

For everyone else, I just made sure to pay attention when someone talked about something inexpensive they wanted, and got that for them.
