Definitely once you've missed a period. Both times I was pregnant I tested the day after I missed my period and got a positive result. Some tests will even claim to detect 5 days prior to the date your period was supposed to have started... though both times I did not test positive (even with the early detectors) until I had actually missed my period. And both times I tested positive the day after my period was missed.
You can get tests over the counter at any pharmacy and most grocery stores.
I don't know where this 'wait 6 weeks' stuff is coming from. I'm 18 weeks pregnant now with my second. Both times my doc told me to just use an over the counter test as soon as I missed a period.
Good luck.

You could take a test now and find out. There are some tests out that that work five days before your missed period. But I would advise taking more than one because those tests aren't always accurate. The best way to go is through a doctor if you can.

If you knew it "had split" why did you not get the "morning after" pill straight away? If you have missed your period the odds are you are already 2wks pregnant. Most HCG tests can be done after about three weeks, so buy a good testing kit, remember tho that this early you can get a false negative but not a false positive. So if you do get a negative I would buy another in about a weeks time. If you are not pregnant I suggest you (a) Buy bigger condoms. (b) Take the Pill (c) Save yourself till marriage!

You can test after 25 days as long as you get one of those "5 day early" tests, if not you have to wait 30 days. If you've already missed your period then its time to test....you should also pay attention to if your mood has been changing and if your getting nausious, especially in the mornings. when I got pregnant with my daughter I knew the next day, I consieved on a tues. night and wed. looked at my hubby and said "congrats, your gonna be a father" 9 1/2 months later he was, but not everyone knows their bodys that well. Good luck I hope you get what you want.

If you have been sexually active, missing a period is the most tell-tale sign of pregnancy. If you have missed your period, you may want to consider taking a home pregnancy test.
http://www.sexualityandu.ca/adults/am-i-pregnant.aspx
About Home Pregnancy Tests:
Home pregnancy tests work by detecting a special hormone in your urine called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). If used correctly, home pregnancy tests are quite accurate. However, accuracy of the test depends on several things, most importantly:
* When you take the test: Pregnancy tests are less accurate if they are taken too early after conception. This is because less of the pregnancy hormone is in the urine soon after conception. Many tests will instruct you to wait for one to two weeks and then take a second test to confirm the results of the first. Most urine pregnancy tests are sensitive enough to detect a pregnancy by the first day of a missed period.
* Following instructions: To ensure an accurate result, make sure that you follow all of the instructions carefully, and make sure the test kit has not passed its expiry date.
***********
I hope that you are not pregnant

Most tests are fairly accurate up to 5 days before your missed period. Take one now.

Some store bought tests can tell if you're pregnant as soon as you miss your period. If it comes up negative, don't assume you AREN'T pregnant. Take another test if you miss your next period, or just go to your doctor for a blood test.

An extra sensative test can be positive as early as a week after ovulation. Most tests on the market can be positive closer to two weeks after ovulation. The hormone tested by preggo tests is called HCG, and isn't made in your body until after an embryo implants. Embryo implantation is about a week after ovulation. Ovulation is *usually* about 2 weeks after the start of your last period.

If you've missed your period you can go ahead and try a test. I was 3 days late and took one and got a positive answer. You missing your period may also be due to stress.
