Good service to the customers keeps them coming back in the future. Smiles and guidance to them really rocks.

When I worked in retail, I was a photo specialist. Customer Service is extremely important because it is something that most people use as a representation of that company. It determines whether or not they will return, or go to the competing stores. A lot of customer service is biting your tongue when something is said that you do not agree with... "the customer is always right" even when they are wrong. It's something as simple as welcoming them, letting them know you're name, where you will be, and not smothering them. If someone would look at the disposable camera's, I would walk up to them, say hello, ask them how they are, and if there was anything I could help them with. If they said no, then I would say okay, my name is Lei I'll be just at that counter if you need any help. Then I would walk away. It's being able to assist them even with something you know nothing about. If someone where to walk into the store and ask about, say cosmetics, I would tell them that I am unaware of whatever they were asking, but if they could hang on for one second, I'd find somebody who would be able to better assist them. I hope this is what you were looking for.

I'm not a retail employee but I think I can take a good guess at what makes a successful customer service attendant.

You have to believe in yourself and the product you are selling. You will need to be a person who is confident, cheerful, and who is able to communicate well with other people. You also need to be able to set and meet sales targets over a given period and show everyone how really enthusiastic you always are. You also need to be a good listener and have a willing attitude and be able to demonstrate how reliable and consistent you always are.

Did you need a specific situation?

If so; how about, once a woman came into my store looking for a specific shoe and I found her size and color choice and helped her out with her purchase.
