Studying abroad is a wonderful and enriching experience, so you should definitely go for it.
But be prepared to go alone. You may or may not like this new friend once you spend a lot of time with her. If you all enjoy each other, great; if not, be mature and generous enough to go you own way and leave them alone together. You can enjoy the city very well on your own, and it will give you a chance to develop friendships with the locals.
Go, and go with the idea of spending most of the time on your own with the locals, and view any time spent with your friend as a bonus, and any enjoyable time with her friend and as extra bonus.

I think you should strongly consider going on your own. I think being with people you know in a way holds you back from really stepping out of your comfort zone and meeting new people. If you go on your own you will meet so many more people and have a more adventurous time.
I think what you will find is that you will learn FAR more outside the classroom on the this study abroad. If I could only go back and do what you are about I would go solo and have the time of my life! Look at this other girl going along as a blessing in disguise that will allow you to experience something you will never forget. Fly solo!

well 3 people is safer to go with i think.....but it depends on how mature you are and how an odd number would affect you...but are you going for the company of others or are you going for the learning experience??? is the numbers going to be different if you join another group.....whats the chances of someone at the very last minute saying i am going??? so i think the smaller the group you will see more....but really way out the pros and cons of having a small group verses a large group..i think 3 is fine as long as you all have a understand why you are going??? ex...are you going for a learning experience and they are going to party in a different city?? or are you 3 going for learning experience.....

ok........heres ur two options
1) you either not go, leaving your friend shattered, but she might end up going with the "other" 1 & which means you lose at both ends.
2) you can sign on , and have an experience that you might never have again, but wether you like it or not, thereis going to be tension because you were expecting it to be just you and your mate, and now "that one" has tagged on, unless your really good at drama, meaning you hide your true feelings and smile all through the trip, (probably destroying the experience for you).
so the choice is yours, either
stay @ home and sulk
or
travel and "STIFF UP A LIP"

That style of a pal isn't honestly a pal, and the quality factor for her is to be much less with that man or woman. But, my recommendation is that U do not provide any recommendation, reason it is like dancing at the ice. U can say some thing with a well reason, however it may be noticeable unhealthy. It's quality to stick apart on this case.

Since you are considering going solo and also are concerned about being left out, either way, you're prepared to do it solo. The main thing is to get as much out of this experience personally as you can. Enjoy!

the more the merrier and by the time you get back you will all be good friends and why give up something you wanted to do because of your fear of someone being left out sounds like life sometimes you have all the friends in the world and others you alone which will be perfect you wont want to be with someone all the time while you are there so sounds like a good deal to me
