I have a website for my charity and it needs to be updated with news stories etc now and then. My friend did it for me before but has recently had a baby so can't do it anymore.

I have never done it before but will need to take over-what is the easiest way for a novice webmaster? I don't want to start from scratch-I need a programme which I can use without changing anything already on the site. I need to add text and photos.

You mean, news items for YOUR charity? Like, say, announcements, and such, and events, and photos of folks in the charity group?

If so, then you'll have to (slowly and perhaps painfully, sorry!) learn a bit of html. Find the file where the friend kept the news stories before. Find the

...

items (those are paragraphs) and place text between them, and find items and place images there (changing the height and width measurements as needed). (The thing being, start with, just replacing what's already there, with new stuff, and copying and pasting to add new paragraphs and images when needed!)

Then, with what you know (hopefully!) about sending the updated file to the website, you can update now and then. Gradually, you'll get quicker at it. That's all done with a simple programme, on your computer, with a copy of the file on your computer. Use a program such as notepad or you can get fancier and pick up a webmaster tool such as WeBuilder. These are WhatYouSeeIsWhatYouGet (WYSIWYG) programmes, and I apologize if I'm telling you stuff you already know...

But then, if you don't want to change anything already on the site, I'm not sure how to help! You need to change SOMETHING to be able to add news!

Try using RSS feed. It is simple to use but a bit hard to set up. Try wikipedia or just google it.
