why isn't kia picanto available in the united states??

i've seen the car and absolutely loved it, but i keep searching for it in the united states, and it simply doesn't exist..

lots of reasons....mostly its not cost effective to build it here. there would not be enough sales to make it profitable.

There is very little demand in the USA for small cars.
Also the USA has different safety regulations than the rest of the world.

To develop a car to meet the USA safety regulations costs a lot of money (hundreds of millions of dollars). If there is not enough demand in the USA to make a profit after all this additional investment, the manufacturer will not make the investment. This is often the case with small cars.
There is enough demand in Europe to justify investment to meet Europe's safety standards (which are different, but not higher or lower, than the USA's).

Usually cars arent allowed here because of our insane overblown safety requirements. Smaller cars from other countries cant always fit in all the safety crap we demand due to both size and weight. Thats why it took so long for us to get a Lotus Elise in the US.

Got any info on it? That is usually the case, but sometimes there are other reasons and Im not familiar enough with the Picanto to say for sure.

Hmmm I need a picture ID to vote but not to buy a gun.... Having guns readily available sure did not help at the Gabby Giffords shooting.
