A delta is a transitional sedimentary environment usually found at the mouth of a river.

In order for a delta to form, there should be:
>steady supply of sediment
>low to moderate current
>gently sloping seabed
those are some of the factors influencing delta formation

Deltas are fomed when sediments are deposited at the mouth of a river as a result of the decrease in the velocity of the water flow. The blocking of sediments promote the formation of tributaries which fan out from the original course of the river, which somehow gives it a triangular shape and hence the word delta.

parts of a delta:
>delta plain, delta front, prodelta

Different types of deltas:
>river-dominated (ex: Mississippi rvr delta)
>Tide-dominated (ex: Colorado rvr delta)
>Wave-dominated (ex: Nile rvr delta)
