Wait... do you see the Russians exploring the planets with Mars Rovers, land a probe on Titan and image its lakes with radar, send a mission to Pluto and a probe with ion engines to the two largest objects in the asteroid belt? Do they have a Hubble Space telescope? Did the Russians build the ISS? Or are they merely supplying water and food to it and hitch a ride with their stupid space tourism program?

No offense, comrade, but the Russian space program, as great as it is, has had its days in the sun when they landed on Venus and took a picture, for instance.. now that was GREAT!

But right now it is more in survival mode than anything else. Which is a pity because the technology (engines) and reliable low cost launchers are fabulous. And if we didn't have to compete politically over the stupid Iran nuclear program, we could actually work together and combine the ingenuity of two great nations for real! And maybe then we would get to fly to Mars. Maybe.

The current Administration needs to redirect funding away from War and towards Technology. Our country indicates it's priorities in how the Govt spends our $. Right now, the Administration makes it seem like War is a priority of the American citizens. Imagine if all those Billions that go to the war every month were put into Space Technology.

How about restructuring government spending to focus on space exploration instead of Wars.

I'm just guessing but with maybe half of what the US has spent in Iraq, we could already have a base on the Moon and be on the way to Mars.

This would be a much more worthy use of tax payer money because it would make a huge American industry.

We're already exploring space, ahead of everybody, and we no longer need to beat the Russians, because we're friends.

I think what needs to change is the attitide of wanting to 'beat' others into space, and instead look towards working as much as possible together with other nations towards a common goal.

Some people are interested in space and finding new things. I'm not, but who am I to say they shouldn't go to space?

Perhaps if we become more discriminate in warmaking, we can save billions of dollars and spend some of it on the space program.
