I work in the kitchen at a hospital. We have a hospital wide program that rewards current employees if they are put down as a reference on new employees applications. After they are hired we get a $100 bonus. I recently got someone hired, and I don't know if I should take my money and be thankful, or if I should split it with the person who put me down as a reference. The new employees don't get any type of sign on bonus. (If that makes a differnce in your answer) Also, if you think I should give them part, how much should I give them?

You are under no obligation to do anything, but It might be an appreciated gesture if you took them for lunch.

It's money you got for doing something for the company, so it's completely up to you.

I got a 2000 dollar bonus for referring a nurse to my facility a few years ago...and I kept it, she was just thankful that she got the job she wanted. I asked her, but she declined the money.

It's completely up to you, it's your money.

No. Referal bonuses are common and do not need to be shared - that person now has income thanks to you. You did them a favor, not vice versa.

Considering @ 40% of the bonus will be taxed it's not worth sharing.

If it was me, I'd keep it, because she'll get the chance soon enough. If you want to do something nice buy her lunch, she'd probably be fine with just that.
