what kimberlee said is interesting because....twice many months apart, a passed over friend came to me while i was sleeping..you can think i might of had an out of body experience, thats what it felt like, he came and got me, holding my hand the whole way...he took me to this cemetery the same one both times, but i have never seen it before, nor do i know where it was, but i could map it out, where everything is, the chapel..etc...anyway we just walked through it, i could see all the graves and tomb stones and by each one there was a person sitting on the ground...so the place was filled with people sitting on the ground by the tomb stones, they were all talking to each other...i could hear a loud whisper among them....then months later it happened again, i was taken there and the same thing happened...after that it clicked that all the people there sitting on the ground talking to each other were all the souls that had been buried there, and they were all talking to each other....now i know this could of been just a dream, but it felt it had some meaning to it.....now when i go past a cemetery, i try and visualize what i saw.....also many have caught something in photos taken at cemeteries....i truelly believe there is energy, some sort of activity in cemeteries....

There could be several reasons for a spirit to be in a cemetery. One being that cemeteries were not always viewed or used as they are today. There was a time when a cemetery was also used as a park where people would go to picnic, take walks and just enjoy the out doors. It is possible that where that is, or was, the case, there may be fond memories. The opposite could also be true and a bad event (murder?) happened at such a place and what is being experienced is a residual haunting stemming from that event.
It is also possible that the spirit feels some form of tie to their grave because that is where their physical body is. Another theory is that the grave is their link to their loved ones. That is where we typically go when we want to talk to a departed friend or family member. They may be able to go anywhere and always be with us if they wish but most people feel more "comfortable" talking to the departed at their grave.
There is a lot of emotional energy produced in a cemetery. Perhaps they can sense or use that energy in some form or manner
I don't know why spirits can be found in cemeteries, but I do know we have captured voices there on many occasions as have many other groups.

They seem to prefer to roam my living room!...rather than a graveyard...
I've seen plenty of ghosts (I'm a clairvoyant medium) and only two of those I encountered were on 'spiritual premises'. The first of those was the spirit of a nun that appeared momentarily in a large cathedral, the second was outside of a quiet village church (and that apparition was of a lady who used to put fresh flowers in the church every week).
In my experience 'ghosts' (or spirits as I prefer to call them)tend to be found more in places related to where they had a connection rather than just the place their 'overcoat' was buried. This can be a love connection to a person or place or sometimes even connected to the place of their passing. The two examples above of ghosts on church grounds were both connected those places before death.
Most of the 'ghosts' that I have encountered have been in places such as peoples houses, pubs, theaters, hospitals, in the street...more 'everyday' locations.
I think it's more likely that that anyone you come across in a graveyard is living rather than 'dead'...personally if I were a 'ghost' I could think of much better places to hang around...just think of all those concerts you wouldn't have to pay for!
Seriously though, on the whole the only thing roaming graveyards are the occasional goth, a courting couple or kids trying to scare each other, but it's not out of the question that a ghost could be spotted there, just more likely to be elsewhere.

I do believe at times some may roam...and that's just that roam. If you were a ghost would you "hang out" in a cemetery. I wouldn't.
I also agree with Mystic's answer.
Very interesting question.

I think living people hang around graveyards. Goth is far from completely dead.
As for ghosts I can only say that I if I was given a choice of where to haunt or be as a spirit I would choose some place with more meaning to me than where I was buried.
On the other hand if your free to roam I might show up (as a ghost) if I knew a family member was visiting me in the cemetery.

The question is impossible to answer without study. One would need to talk with you, study the home, study the area. You answer your own question in that, it's not sleep paralysis if you're able to move while it's happening. I am Catholic. If it were me, I'd get a Saint Benedict Jubilee medal. The medal contains an exorcism prayer. Have it blessed by a priest and either wear it or hang it near your bed. If it's demonic things will change. You may still hear things, but it won't touch you.

Just today we were coming back from the mall. There were flowers placed on the side of the highway.I said "Guess somebody died there"..and wondered if they would still be at that place in spirit or if their friends & family thought that (because they had put flowers there).I think it would be awful if they were "stuck " there on the side of the highway. If you have family die in a hospital..do people keep bringing flowers to the hosp. room you died in?But I do understand putting flowers at the grave site..where the body is. I hope people don't hang around the cemetery or the highway or hosp.rooms after they die.I think the hospital would be totally filled with spirits if that's what they do.Maybe they just follow people who loved them.Anyway...you should stay out of the cemetery at night for your own safety from people who are still alive & might hurt you there.

If I was a ghost I wouldn't. I'd go back to some place I liked, some warm place. People hang around grave yards to place flowers and visit the dead. (was that a trick question?)

First of all, to believe in spiritual phenomena you must have a belief in God. Since the accepted theory of hunting's is that a spirit is the soul of a person who was taken before his time.
This implies that God made a mistake, and since by definition, God is infallible, it is impossible for him to make a mistake. Therefore either God does not exist, and neither do ghosts, or God does exist and also neither do ghosts.
Either way, ghosts do not exist.
But let's go back to the haunting of a cemetery. As I understand hunting's, the spirit usually hangs out where a traumatic occurrence happened. Why then would they haunt a cemetery. It's simply spooky, because we as sentient beings recognize our own death.

Have I seen a ghost? Well, no, but I have photographed them. I've taken pictures where things show up and then I re-take the photo and it's not there. I've seen ghosts on those psychic shows like RESCUE MEDIUMS www.rescuemediums.com and i have seen ghosts in online photographs, but other than that I do not believe in them. I do believe in talking to the dead though.
