I just went through this exercise in Ohio. There are no such things as grants for all intents and purposes. You can get an SBA loan though a bank like NCB, First Federal of Lakewood, Sky/Huntington.

The problem is that they will want a very throrough business plan. Email me, and I will send you the software that I wasted my money on.....

Here is what I found:

1. They will not let you pay yourself a salary.
2. They will want your personal assets as collateral.

Instead of going through with it, I just went to work for someone else...

Go to grants.gov/ and follow the instructions. You will find that unless you are in basic research, there are no grants for a small business. Any lender will require a business plan that shows that you can pay the loan back. Go to sba.gov/smallbusinessplanner/plan/writea... for instructions on how to write a business plan.

Go to http://www.grants.gov for a list of government grants. You can get one if you're starting a daycare.
