We have had that happen several times at the company where I am a part-time employee. We just cash them at *their* bank and put the cash in ours - as you said. One poor kid, when she started there, I felt sorry for her and warned her...she just took her first check and ran! The company really isn't that insolvent, she just constantly runs close to the line, and they hadn't made deposits for a whole week while the bookkeeper was on vacation...duh to them. She also covered bounce charges on folks who had them.

I left a job once and went to work for another law firm. My final paycheck did bounce, but only because they switched bank accounts. It was a completely innocent mistake and they replaced the check right away.

I worked for a "Christian" company and we used to joke in the office about the paycheck lottery. The checks to one or more of the offices would always be mysteriously late. It took me months to get the sales bonus I earned. That was after fighting with the guy who tried to steal it. I'm glad to be out of there. The high ups got paid and they didn't care if anyone else got paid or not.

Never had that happen, but one time the payroll system went down and they had to do everything by hand, and for some reason they skipped me and I didn't get payed. I told my employer that if I didn't have a check by noon they were going to be liable for paying all my bounced check fees and my bills. Had a check by 9 am. It is a very scary thing.

Yes, many years ago I was tipped off the company I worked for was in trouble. As soon as I got it, I'd jump in my car and go cash it at their bank. Eventually they got their finances in order, we did suffer a couple bounced checks before they did. They did make those good.

I worked at a place where I was always amongst the first to get and cash my paycheck like you said at the bank it was drawn on
I took the cash so they wouldnt be able to say there was nothing to go in my account.
it did happen that sometimes those who cashed checks later were told there was not enough to cover their checks

No, but that's pretty bad. My brother-n-law went in to work and the owner told them all that it was the last day of work and they were bankrupt...the last checks they all got bounced!
