This depends greatly on how good thier IT guy is. They do keep records on the server of all incoming and outgoing traffic, and a log of personel on the computers, so if they do see this they will know who has been doing it.

They can detect the domain name of your proxy and the domain name of sites you visit.
By using a proxy, for example to view myspace they would be able to see something like the following
index.php?q=d3d3Lm15c3BhY2UuY29t&hl=0
So you are hidden in a way (they cannot immediately see you are on myspace) - if they are clever & follow this link they may know you are visiting myspace etc
The question is...do they know who is surfying on what pc at what time? - (do you have to login with a personal username?, do you change the pc's that you use or do you always use the same one?)
Most school's will know people are viewing myspace via proxies, but they will not know who is and at what time

Yes they can then they block the proxy. I was using them on and off for wuite a while, all different ones, then they blocked me from using the school server for two weeks. So it's probably not worth the effort

Yep. They see you're using a proxy site, but not what you did through the proxy site. But as soon as they see a proxy, they'll just check the cookies on your account.

The answer is yes but you can fool them by using proxy that has not so very suspicious..
You can surf the internet anonymously or invisible. You can browse the web at school without being blocked by the school's filter or in your own house. You can browse the web at work and not be blocked by your work's filter.

WHY are you breaking through a filter in the first place ? If they have a half decent security system, YES--they can detect you.

Yeah but they probably wouldn't care anyway. They'll just block the proxy site.

If they wanted to, yes. Data traveling through a specific gateway (the school's server) is easily analyzed.
