They can't help it. The majority have been brainwashed from birth and have no choice.
How else do these crazy religions stay in business generation after generation after generation.

I don't think an objective reading of the Bible can discombobulate the argument for religion. If you read it objectively, you'd realize it was meant for people that lived 2000 years ago and shouldn't be taken as a strict literal interpretation of reality. For instance, the story of creation is meant to gloss over where we came from. It would have been impossible to explain 3.5 billion years of evolution to the uneducated masses of 2000 years ago (plus no one knew anything about it to begin with). Was it necessary for people to know the absolute truth back then, or was it alright to just give a general idea explained in terms they could understand?

Keep in mind that the Bible represents the writings of multiple authors expressing their interpretation of word of God. When you have multiple authors, you have multiple points of view and personal biases. That does not discredit the work itself or religion. And the Bible is an expression of only one religion - Christianity.
Religion is about faith. The Bible is an expression of faith but not faith itself.

there can be no such thing as an "objective" reading of the Bible. and if you are reading the Bible... "objectively" you're missing the point.
It's not a primer for idiots, its a guide for believers.

why is it that the written testimony of 41 individuals is so easily tossed aside for a theory that has scant circumstantial evidence and contradicts itself on very fundamental levels?
FYI: your lack of belief, in no way affects the truth. sorry.

I'm content in my faith/belief system. It don't bother me a bit if someone disagrees with it. It seems to bother others that I believe that God has spoken, and his word is the one that will ultimately matter.

That, my friend, is the definition of FAITH....
They believe....despite overwhealming evidence to the contrary...they believe. That is what FAITH is all about...
Their faith is fine with me...in fact I sort of envy it sometimes....The problem comes when they try to impose their faith on me.......They can have all the faith that they want, just leave me out of it...
