If your doctor has said to start giving him cereal then go with that, but really, a baby doesn't need anything but breast milk or formula until he is 6 months old. Cereal at this very young age is strictly for supplementation to the breast milk or formula so it would be wise to give him his nursing or bottle first then offer him a little cereal. Most of the vitamins and nutrients he needs for proper growth and development will come from breast milk and formula. Infant cereal really has little in the way of nutritional value. Additionally, the tongue-thrust reflex that a baby is born with is designed to nurse from a nipple and not eat from a spoon. Each baby is different and until the brain is developed enough to signal the tongue-thrust reflex to subside eating from spoon instead of a nipple will be more difficult and frustrating. If you must give him cereal then give him part of his bottle first then feed him his cereal finishing up with the rest of the bottle.

Very Common. Don't fret. It takes a while for a baby to learn how to be spoon fed. What I suggest is, if it gets to that point where he keeps crying...then yes give him the bottle. After about 4 or 5 ounces try to offer the cereal again. I wish you luck and much love!

My first one never screamed and took right to the spoon but i'm just starting my 2nd one on it and he screams cuz the spoon isn't fast enough and he's used to sucking. I just keep track of how often he eats then when it gets close to that time i start giving him baby food until he gets very hungry and needs the bottle

When I started out with the cereal I only gave the cereal right after a bottle. Never before or in between. At that age they are to young to substitute a feeding with cereal, they don't understand.

this is very common babies are used to having a constant flow of food coming out of the bottle and dont like waiting for the spoon, you need to catch him before hes due for his feed but in time he;ll get in the swing of things

He might not be ready for spoon feeding. Three months seems awfully young, even if he's been cleared for it. Take a break from it and revisit in a couple weeks or a month or two. It's not nutritionally neccessary for him to have ceral at this age.

Yes it is normal. They will get used to the "Flow" of the solids, but it does take a while.
