Lightening struck our house about a month ago, & it has never been the same either. There was such an overflow of electricity in the house wiring that the air was blue & our hair rose like some sort of horror movie. At first we did not know what had happened, but I do remember thinking that we all were going to die. Then everything went dead in the house & we heard something that sounded like explosions. We have 2 acres, semi-rural, lots of trees. We looked outside & the wires were on the ground & it was raining. There were little mini explosions all over the front of the house. We could not leave with all the water, the whole yard looked electricified. When the electric company came out, we were told that the box on the house had been blown off, so it & the rotten pole I have been trying to get them to replace for 2 years would need replacing. When you have spent much money on landscaping a backhoe is not what you want to see in your flower beds. As they dug the hole for the new pole, they hit the waterline, so now we had no water either. There was a backhoe, 3 electric company trucks, 1 water company truck, 1 electrician truck, 8 men & 2 very upset little dogs at my house plus my husband & myself & I did not even have water to make tea. Eventually we got the lights on & smelled sulfur real bad. We searched the house & there was an electrical fire in one of the bathrooms. We did get it out; bad news is theres a big hole in the bathroom wall, good news is I get to have the bathroom repainted (I think I'll do the hall also). All GFC plugs were fried & had to be replaced. The computers were ok, but the surge protectors all are fried. The Boise surrond sound was buried in the back yard, I really hated to lose it, great sound system. The pump for the waterfall in the Koi pond was fried & when checking it out I found my Koi had babies, they are really cute & doing well. The dryer fried. The dryer was fixed but I was without a dryer for so long I got dangerously low on towels. Not a situation I tolerate well. Today I still have a hole in the bathroom wall, still mourn the Boise, & I fight daily with the homeowners insurance company. I have many absurd days, but I think this just has to go to the top of the list. Thanks for allowing me to share my nightmare, & I promise every unfortunate word is true.

When we moved here from Jersey, we rented a very very old home that had weird little metal rods with brass balls attached. I thought it looked a bit phony like someone took these people for a couple hundred bucks laughing all the way to the bank. That is till September rolled around! Bang, Bang, bang! 3 hits in one storm! We went out to eat that night and wondered if the place would be gone in the morning. (we also weren't about to stay the night.) I guess it happens allot out there, nothing was charred or frizzed! Except for my nerves! I saw a guy get nailed on a stand up jet ski in Calif! That was bad!

The Probability of a golfer getting struck by lightning ( Pl. note the spelling!) is 1 in million. A building get struck by lightning is still lower.

My house has never been struck by lightning.

But a part of one of my relatives' house was struck by lightning & only a slight damage to that part. No fatalities.

Has a ball of lightning roll through the living room one day...but I was the only one not home to see that. Saw a bolt come out of the socket and scare the crap out of my dog...and me. We live on on iron ore deposit so I think the ground gets hit all the time around here. No major damage but lots of fried electronics and surge protectors.

No, but my gandfather's house was when I had just gotten out of his backyard pool. Lightning hit the television antenna and blew out part of the chimney. Also, lightning hit a deck I was standing on overlooking the beach in N.C. Me and my friend got blasted back a little bit. Needless to say, I'm a little jumpy when it comes to lightning.

Not that I know of, but they took down the nearby water tower so anything is possible, now that it no longer stands as a lightning rod. You can hear the thunder more these days for that reason.
