If you get a skin disease or jaundice then yes. Sunlight makes your skin darker. Radioactivity could cause some changes in your skin.

I am sure the skin changes in tune with its environment. However, only certain skin types show distinct and rapid changes. White skin with low levels of melanin, when exposed to sunlight will tan i.e increase production of melanin. This helps to reduce the amount of Vit D produced and protects the body from overdosing on Vitamin D which would lead to calcification of soft tissues such as kidney and demineralization.
However, the tan is not permanent and will revert back to normal skin color once removed from sunlight. However, this homeostatic effect is absent in some skin types leading to a permanent tan that will reduce amount of Vitamin D synthesized in the body forever. Hence, some people become darker rather than having a temporary tan.

No, that's just a suntan and it's definitely not permanent. Eventually the color fades if you aren't continually getting a tan. I get pretty tan every summer and by November or so I'm flat white, even the little remaining tanlines disappear by like New Years. Wear high SPF sunscreen, it wears off throughout the day so reapply it every couple hours if you're outside. Neutrogena makes a lot of high SPF ones, I like the sheer touch and sport kinds and you can get it at any drugstore or big supermarket. Also when possible you could try staying out of the sun when it's brightest- between like 10 AM and 2/3PM, wear hats, cover up a bit more, etc.

I think skin tone changes over the years as you get older too. Mind you, going grey would also seem to have the same effect.

yes your diet can alter your skin. carrots for example. the pink in flamingos is due to a micro-organism in their diet, well that's what someone told me in France anyway.
