I have 2 best friends we have been friends for over 50yrs.

I don't know if you can have many best friends. I think the word "best" is used a singular adjective meaning better than all the rest. I think you can have alot of really close, good friends but only one BEST Friend. But is is not impossible to have 2 best friends or more but logic tells me that your feelings for each will be slightly different and although you may call them each your best friend, deep down you know which one really is your BEST BEST friend. Sometimes you find out in time which one truly is your best friend based on circumstances and events that occur in your life and in theirs.

I had one friend. He died. So I have been trying to replace him. It's really hard to replace a best friend. It would have been wiser to have a couple friends, it's very lonely not to have another friend to be a back up. I have come close to making new friends, it just takes time and patience.
People who are easy to deal with have lots of friends naturally so they don't need another friend.
Most people know a lot of people but can't really depend on another person to be there as a friend.
I always tell people to hang onto a good friend and never let go.

i have one best friend and many other friends. She has been my best friend for 30 years and I have trusted her with my life. It is nice to have friends but better to have one or two best friends and have the rest as just good friends. Trust me on this one.
