I am asking a genuine question here. Is a red wedding dress used for goth, vampire, or just Halloween weddings? I know "Jezebel" the movie, with Betty Davis starring wore a red ball gown at her debutante party, and everyone shunned her as all the girls wore virgin white dresses, and deemed her odd. (that was the movie and in those times)

I am just curious what kind of girl/lady would wear a red wedding dress, and why your character, religion (if any) comes into play?

I wore a red dress at my wedding. I hate white, I'm not religious, and I had a gothic garden party theme. Deep red is my favorite color, and it looks great on me, that's why I chose it. The idea that your wedding dress has to be white is purely cultural - in many Asian countries women wear red on their wedding day because it is the color of joy, and ancient Roman women used to wear red veils. Whenever anyone has seen my wedding photo, they always love it, and often say "I wish I thought of that" showing just how brainwashed our culture is about having a white dress. Have whatever color dress you want, it's your day!

A wedding dress = a dress worn by the bride on her wedding day. Color does not matter. White wedding dresses only started becoming tradition in about the 1950s. Before then women wore their "Sunday Best" which wasn't neccessarily white. In the 1940s during wartime lots of young ladies wore their nice suits of all different colors. So women wearing non-white dresses on their wedding day is nothing new. In my opinion, red is a very beautiful color for a wedding dress. Character, religion, lifestyle has nothing to do with it.
And if you're asking because you know someone who is planning on wearing a red wedding dress and are wondering what in the world they're thinking - don't judge. This is the bride and groom's day and they shouldn't plan their day according to what people are going to think of them.

I think it's your wedding you wear what you want. I actually went into a bridal shop to try on a red wedding dress but they had already sold the one off the rack so I couldn't try it on. Red is my favorite color, so I didn't care. We got married outside and had kind of a non traditional wedding. We saw each other before the ceremony for pictures, got married outside by a friend of my mom's whose a judge. I ended up wearing an Oyster colored dress and got tons of compliments on it. A friend told her boss I wanted a red dress and he said - hey it's her day, good for her for doing what she wants. So my dress didn't end up being red but it wasn't white or ivory either and I didn't get shunned. So you do what you want, it's your day! And I feel I have good character and religous beliefs. The red dress I wanted was very classy too - a typical wedding dress, only red.

If you want a red wedding dress, then by all means, wear a red wedding dress. It's your big day. You should wear the dress you want. I wanted a black dress. It's what I wanted. I didn't get it. But I believe, there are no rules. It should be whatever the bride & groom want. Good luck, a red wedding dress should be beautiful. 2D
