I believe Gorilla, simply because they have so much muscle they can't swim. And they are insanely strong, as strong as a bear, but they have four hands, and they are very very vicious when challenged. They may not have claws, but they have teeth and cunning. They can use rocks, trees, whatever. So as a bear may be strong, and can rip bumpers off cars etc. Imagine what a full grown gorilla can do? Honestly you can play dead to a bear, not a gorrila. So what do YOU think. It can be in any terrain you choose jungle, open plains, whatever. I think in the long-run in many terrains gorrila will own a bear, the bear may have chances of winning but % wise I think gorrila would win. :)

You can play dead with a bear only because by it's nature, it doesn't want to have much to do with eating a human unless it perceives it as a threat.

I'd vote bear, for many reasons regarding strength, speed, and sharpness, but I agree with the others that this is a silly hypothetical.

Have you ever seen an 800 lb. grizzly bear break into a run from a standing position? I almost ran into one on a highway in Canada. A lot more quick and agile than you'd think.

I'd say it'd probably be a pretty fair fight, though the gorilla may be disadvantaged based on weight (usually between 350-450 lbs).
however, whoever made the peaceful vegetarian comment, I really hope you were kidding. if not, do some research.

"If challenged by a younger or even by an outsider male, a silverback will scream, beat his chest, break branches, bare his teeth, then charge forward. Sometimes a younger male in the group can take over leadership from an old male. If the leader is killed by disease, accident, fighting or poachers, the group will split up, as the animals disperse to look for a new protective male. Very occasionally, a group might be taken over in its entirety by another male. There is a strong risk that the new male may kill the infants of the dead silverback."

if you've never seen gorillas challenging each other, find some footage, it'll change your view point. same thing with chimps, they can be pretty violent as well.

I'm going to assume you mean the bear and gorilla fighting each other.

I'd put my money on the bear. The shear size of a full grown black bear (hey lets make it a Polar bear) would probably intimidate the gorilla. They keep clear of elephants, rhinos, lions etc.

The bear, obviously. He has a fighting temperament, whereas the gorilla is a peaceful vegetarian.

Are you into bear baiting, c*ck fighting(roosters), dog fights and bull fighting as well.
Why, for goodness sake, would you even consider such a horrible thing?

At chess, tiddly winks...what?

Since they don't live in the same areas on the planet, there's probably no chance of you lining them up for a major bout

I wonder if animals ever ponder who would win a fight between a hairdresser and an advertising executive.
