Is it better to hand it out yourself or let the kids pick what they want? Also, how many pieces per kid? I've never passed out candy before, and I don't want it to be too chaotic!

hand it out yourself, 2-3 pieces, or put a few pieces in trick or treat bags, must easier to hand out. and for little kiddies I hand out little packs of cookies, like Teddy Grahams.

If I have more than two different kinds of candy, I let the kids pick out two pieces. If I just have two kinds I give them one of each. One kind? Well, I'm sure you can figure it out. So, after they take the candy if they say, "thank you," then I give them a couple more pieces. Some kids just rudely take the candy and run away without saying a word. It seems good to reward the polite kids, doesn't it? Hope this helps!

It is better to hand out the candy yourself because some kids can get greedy and start grabbing handfuls of candy. I would say if you are giving out chocolate candy bars then one or two per trick-or-treater is good, but if it's a mixed assortment of candy like now and laters and lollipops then like three pieces of candy per trick-or-treater is good. Never leave the candy bowl out on the front porch for the kids because you'll be out of candy in a few minutes!

Actually it would depend on what kind of candy I was giving out. If it was the mini candy bars (the shrunken version of the big ones) then 2 per kid. If it was the minis (little square ones) or something equally small then 3 would be cool.
If you end up having a ton left then let them start to pick what they want. They will of course pick more than 2 and that'll get rid of it.

2 pieces per kid and you put them in the bag. If not you will run out of candy.

I hand out 2 pieces per kid (unless they are really cute and I give them more).

i used to let kids take what they wanted ... enjoyed the surprise of seeing how they would all handle it and it varied a great deal ...as did the parents LOL

i learned more about the satanic rituals and that kids die on this day / it's a really evil holiday and i started to pass out the little church message with the truth of holidays WITH a nice candy treat .

i later decided that i could not participate / felt if one kid died , it was too many. I went to giving twice the goodies on Easter .. yes i was the only one on the block celebrating the easter holiday with big treat bags ... my participants /communication of the holiday began to dimish as neighborhing kids that knew got older .

I wish that there was a solution for Christians to handle this . I don't like kids feeling shortchanged ... it's hard to be a kid these day s... but I personally can't condone or participate in something that promotes the sacrifice and killing of kids. One is too much ,in my opinion.

Throw three pieces of candy at each child as they approach your house. That gives you three tries to hit them in the head. You get ten points for the head...
