First, who really gives a .... about points. Is anybody really that mindless that they care about points? Since you can obtain points for just answering, no matter if the answer is wrong, its pointless. And what do you give up by giving points. Nothing. If the person who poses the question chooses a joke answer, the person who composed a real answer has wasted his/her time casting pearls before swine.
People with religious or political prejudices will thumbs down perfectly correct answers purely due to their prejudice and not to the facts. So again, incorrect answers can be chosen over correct answers. So I will repeat: what good are points?
Second. Mayan prophecy is just as good as anybody elses prophecy: worthless. Why would you believe the religious ramblings of some indians who had never invented the wheel? Yes, they had a good calendar. Better than European ones at the time.
The thing is Anybody who takes the time to watch the sky for a number of years and keep accurate records, and do some creative math can come up with a perfectly good calendar. No one can predict the future.

History channel has been running a lot of programming on this lately. As with all matters dealing with the end times it is more what you want to believe than it is fact. The Mayans had a calendrical system that was advanced riveling our system today, their calendar ends abruptly on 21/12/2012. Also Nostradamus has it about the same time. Edgar Cayce has it the same time or there abouts. According to some these prophetetic verses are not set in stone but can be changed through action. There have been many predictions made in the past of a looming doomsday (Millerites) as an example. A man named Miller founded his own religion back in the middle 1800's and claimed the world was going to end on a certain date upon which his loyal followers believed in him set about making preparations for that fateful day. Needeless to say that day never arrive. Most predictions such as those of Nostradamus are rather vague and can be taken to reference other events if any at all.

I still plan to be around on 12 22 2012.
If it ends on that date, then it ends. If not, it doesn't.
I've heard enough of the world is going to end on such an such date to be a tad skeptical.
But I do find it interesting that the Aztec/Mayan calender practiced that date as the end of the world, or it at least ends on that date.

Why pick basically those 2 activities? What approximately all the different mess ups that have occured basically interior the final 10 years: - Katrina - 2004 Tsunami - Haiti earthquake - 2001 India earthquake - heatwave in Russia in 2010 that killed fifty six,000 people - floods and mudslides in Brazil in 2008 - 2008 Myanmar cyclone in case you play with dates, you will detect all forms of the thank you to function them as much as any date you like. via the way, the date in Japan while the earthquake and tsunami struck replaced into no longer the tenth, it replaced into the eleventh - wager you may desire to locate another catastrophe to function to 11.09.01 to function as much as 21.12.12).

Oh geez, not another 2012 question again. You will find out that day. It's only 5 years away. Go buy a new car, by the time your 5 year lease is up, you will find out if the world is still around :p

No.
that just happens to be when the Mayan Calander runs out. It will run out because of the behavbiour of the numbers.
i don't know the exact numbers associated offhand, but if you look up the Mayan Calander online, you'll find everything you'll ever need to know.
the world won't end when this calander runs out, no more than it ends every year when your daily calander runs out.

Extremely unlikely, and even more unlikely to be predictable! Especially all life - some microbes or bacteria are very resistant and would no doubt survive a cataclysmic event that may eradicate higher order life forms.
Perhaps you want to quote your internet reference.

I've heard of this too. Seen a few shows on it. There's no proof that it will happen but I'm going to prepare for it when it comes.
