How do you feel about transsexual women (male to female)? I am just beginning to transition and was wondering how you felt about someone like me.

To answer shortstuff's questions, I have always felt trapped in a man's body for as long as I can remember. I've been in therapy for 2 years now and this is the only way I can feel right with myself. My mother is sad that I feel this way, but is supporting me. My brother wants nothing to do with me anymore and my father has passed away 3 years ago now. Insurance will not pay for it, so I'm saving up for the eventual surgeries. I have to pay for my hormones myself (very expensive). Hope these answers help.

A friend of mine is transsexual, and I am fully supportive of his decision to become a woman. I now refer to my friend as her, though.

When she decided to make the change, most people were surprised, but came to be intrigued by it. It takes so long to have the operation, that by the time he became a she, we all expected it, and weren't opposed to it at all.

Good luck with the transition. Getting used to the hormonal changes is the hardest part. And let everyone know what you're doing so they have time to adapt/accept your choice.

Once everyone understands it has more to do with feeling trapped in the wrong body than it has to do with homosexuality (common misconception) then everyone will come to understand and accept.

Good luck!

There are many animals in the world that can change gender and are unisex. I have no problem with someone who does. The only problem I would have is someone who switched multiples times. If you are a lady trapped in a mans body, go for the switch. If you are a man wanting to know what it's like, then there's other ways. I would recommend moving to a place that is very open to that. That is if you don't already.

Good luck. If you ever need some support feel free to e-mail me.

I'm actually writing a featured article for my company on the surgical process. A MTF works in my workplace and I think she actually looks pretty pretty. Honestly, MTFs should be treated like women just as FTMs should be treated like men. I think those who are prejudicial against any transgendered person ranging from someone who is androgynous to someone who is transsexual is acting out of ignorance and fear.

Anyone who takes biology knows that sex isn't even black and white, gender could easily be described as more abstract than sex.

Best of luck with your transition, and I hope you get the doctor you prefer as well.

How do I feel? I don't give it any thought to be honest. Gender is mental, and you have to be yourself. Transsexuals are human beings that deserve respect, they're no different from anyone else except that weren't exactly dealt the best hand biologically, and have to battle to be who they truly are.

We're all equal, and I just wish you the best of luck - I know a lot of people that unfortunately don't see things the way I do - $crew them :)

I've seen many documentaries about this subject & I just wonder what goes through a person's mind, such as yours, that makes them want to make this life long transition. Is it something you have felt that you needed to do for a long time? How is your family handling it? What all is involved in handling your identity. (birth certificate, SS#, etc) Who pays for this transition? (insurance company?

I find it very interesting - I have never met anyone who has changed gender (or maybe I have and not realised). Although I did used to work in a truckers cafe real male macho enviroment and we had one male trucker who always wore womens clothes and I never witnessed any negative reaction to him. I think if people are negative it is because they are just scared and don't know how to react.

I don't feel any particular way about transsexual women. Due to the extreme surgery you have to endure, I hope you are certain about your choice and I wish you well.

I know someone who's completed the transition process. She's just another girl, even if she did start out a little different.

I am fully supportive of the transsexual and transgendered communities. I support happiness in general, so whatever you need to have that, is alright by me.
