What are my alternatives here in england? I have a friend in Oz who has an implant in her arm and another who has an injection, are these as effective and can i get them in england??

I was always forgetting my pill, so , two children later, I had the injection - and kept forgeting to go to the nurse! (also it made me gain weight)

Now I have a mirena coil and can forget about it for 5 years.
It took 10 minutes to be fitted and only takes 5 minutes to remove. If my husband and I wanted more kids it would be possible straight after removal.

The added bonus is my periods are very light-almost non exsistent, and I don't get the pain, the bloating or the spots that periods sometimes cause.

Implants and the injection are both available in England and are very effective, you have to make sure you remember to go back to the drs when they are about to run out though, I think the injections last 3 months but the implant can last 2 years so it could slip your mind. I'm about to start on the patch which you change once a week then have a week off for your period, and thother thing you should try is a coil (hormonal or non-hormonal) which are both effective too (hormonal kind Mirena more effective). Mirena lasts about 3 years.
I hope you find something that works for you, I always forget too - hence the patch.

Yes all these kinds are available in UK..and they apparently all very effective.Go and see the nurse cause there are some things i.e if you planning to have a child in next 5 years implant wouldn't be the best choose...Injections are great they last for 3 months, but I got allergic reactions to them...which is apparently very rare. She'd talked to you about all the benefits and disadvantages.
I used to forget my pill but I have it now in the cup where my toothbrush is so every morning i can see it and use it.

Hope this helps (by the way i have tried the injection and i did put on weight, i also forgot to make / attend the appointments or they were always inconvenient!)

I don't know if they have them in England, but I have been on the shot it works great and you don't have to deal with the monthly thing. (Depo-Provera) It does have negative side effects though so make sure you follow up with your MD. Early osteoperosis (sp.) is a big one and sometimes you can have trouble conceiving afterwards. I hear the implant is pretty nice although I haven't gotten the guts to have it put in my arm. They also make a thing called a Nuva-Ring. and its a flexible ring that goes up in there. It's wonderful can't feel it. It's a weekly thing. I really enjoy it over other forms. Hardly any side effects. You can also try just popping your pill whenever you're brushing your teeth make it a routine, when you rinse just hurry up and take it. Good luck!

The injection is call DEPO PROVERA, and is available from any family planning clinic or G.P. It is injected into the buttock, and is done on the 2nd day of your period. It is 99% eeffective, as it stops the ovary from releasing an egg each month. The injection needs to be repeated every 12 weeks.

It is usual for periods to stop during that time.

Yes you can get the implant in England. Go to your doctor or local family planning clinic. Alternatively you could put your pills with your toothbrush, that way when you brush everyday you'll remember your pill.

I'm in the UK.
I was on the pill, but I too kept forgetting to take it, so I went to my doctor's and got the injection instead. I have to have it every 12 weeks, and I don't think I have any side affects from it.
Good luck with whatever you decide, and enjoy! ;)

The injection is a good alternative. Although, I personally would try a different method - such as the coil fitted
