He can begin has skate a 2 years old but for play hockey it's better at 4 or 5 years old.

I say probably the best age to start out is 4 or 5.
I started at 4 and i'm 15 now and i can skate exceptionally well.
Another thing you might want to look at is speed skating. It helps sooo much with the speed of the kids and there overall skating ability.

start skating with him around age 4 hold both his hands and just hold him up between your legs as you skate... very slow... then when he can hold himself up give him some freedom but stay near so he doesn't get run over by the bigger kids. then as soon as you can get him into hockey. and he'll get better on his own but you have to make sure it is fun for him and that your not making it seem like work. otherwise he wont like it.

Well, my mother started me out when I was 3 in a program when they teach young kids to skate. I really reccomend a program like this when your son is 3-4 so he can learn to skate.

You can get him skating as soon as he starts walking. The earlier you get him going, the better.

when he walks you get him on skates pushing a chair around the pond and you skate with him all the time unless he hates it and you give him some space.
If you love hockey like my mom and dad and my sibs (sisters and brothers) you want to be out there with them all the time
start em as early as you can

my parents put me on skates the second i could walk. now i skate better than i walk, so i say the sooner the better.

4 or 5 definatly. i didnt start playing until i was 16. i totally regret not playing when i was little!!
