Bo Name Meaning

Many times people use the name "Bo" as a shortened version of Robert rather than Bob or Bobby. I think that the French version, Beau, loosely translated means 'handsome,' as in referring to a man and there aren't that many people that actually have it as a given name. The exception I can think of offhand is in Louisiana where they have their own version of Cajun French, which is nothing like Parisian French. I have heard of some people actually being named "Beau" that live in Louisiana. I'm sure it could also be short for Beauregard, but not too many people are currently using this as their kid's given name, but as another shortened version of another last name such as Thibodeaux. I hope this is of some help to you.

Beau could be short for Beauchamp and Beauregard. But I think it's nicer just Beau.

I knew a guy named Robert who went by Bo.

Bodhi is a pretty cool boys name that could be shortened to Bo as a nickname, but I think the other spelling Beau stands pretty well for itself.

It's Beauregard, which is French for "beautiful gaze". I imagine it came about as a name from new parents gazing at their beautiful newborn!

And being that I'm here on the MS Gulf Coast, about an hour from New Orleans, I actually grew up with several guys named "Beau" alone, not short for anything - and I've met a few more as an adult. If you like it, go for it.

For a girl "Beau" is sometimes it is short for Isabeau (another version for Isabelle). For a boy "Bo" can be short for Bobby/Robert. Good luck and congratulations!

Beau is short for Beauregard, which I don't really like. I prefer Bo, short and simple. It is for brody, Boden, or Robert (bob, bobby). That's all I can think of. I like Brody or Boden. Boden is so cute.
