A high mileage. I have a mate who's B.M.W. 325 PETROL had 250,000 miles on the clock when it was part x'ed for another B.M. Even at that mileage it gave good m.p.g. and was reliable doing some long trips to Italy. So I reckon as long at the price is right and the car in general is in good nick you should go for it especially if it has "full service history"

People worry far too much about mileage. Modern engines will go for very many miles/kilometres - well over 100K miles in most cases. You also need to think about what sort of miles the car has done - if it's been cruising up and down motorways all its life then the engine should be in very good condition - it's card that pootle about just doing the shopping on short journeys that wear more quickly.

I'd say if that BMW has done less than 150,000 miles, you're fine.

Seriously? Probably between 500,000 and 1000,000 miles. As long as it is maintained the only issues in the engine would be timing chain stretching or valve related equipment and camshafts wearing out or the risk of a loss of oil whilst driving. Engines usually outlast cars.

These days if the engine is of a large size it will out last the rest of the car.

200k miles, easily. The rest of the car will fall apart before the engine does.
