Less when they're young than when they're old. If you spend $500 on toys for a 7 year old they will have more toys than they know what to do with. However if you find something that is very useful (like a bicycle) or educational (like a telescope) there's nothing wrong with spending money if you're buying something of good quality. I remember one xmas only getting 2 or 3 toys but we went to Florida on vacation, that was part of the gift. It was my favorite xmas gift ever.

Not too much on each. We have 7 children. It usually just depends on how much money we have. They get stuff all year long so Xmas is the time to get something they really want not need.

Last year the 3 oldest wanted Ipod Nano's so they got them and a couple other things.

well i tried to cut back after a 3000$ xmas each but still too much. I think this year we are cutting back to 3 big 2 little gifts and some clothes nothing more and I am going to make a big donations to toys for tots and our church adopt a family. That way the kids will feel good for giving.

As much as I can afford to without setting myself up to moan afterwards. There are others that need gifts as well so as the kids get older, they help by giving as well as getting.
Your answer also depends on how many kids you have and their ages. A good rule of thumb is to start your special Christmas savings account at the beginning of the year and start to buy gifts in early September/October. They are cheaper then.

Usually about 200. $150 on gifts and 50 on stocking stuff. We are getting our girls a large swingset this year which will cost lots more than 200 each kid so we will just get them a few presents for under the tree.

Far to much!!! I have 2 kids and I spend anywhere from $500 to $600 on each of them. I keep saying that I'm not going to do that, but each year I do.

They are adults. Not to change the subject but one of my daughter's puppies just passed gas. For real. Gagging here. Anyway, for the adults I try to keep it to $100 and for the granddaughters I try to keep it around $150. This year I am trying to cut back though. Gosh knows the kids don't need a darned thing!

As everybody know, Xmas comes only once in a year and that it is the children that have to enjoy the maximum and therefore we spent more than 50% of our monthly income on them for XMAS !!!!

with my wife and kids (two daughters) I would say about 2500 for the wife (jewlery and such) and the kids 2500 all together.....they are young so this is for toys and actual things that they need.....like clothes, shoes, and whatever....and about 1000 for each birthday (except the wife of course, she gets a little more)....for me dad only gets about maybe 100 bucks worth, but to me the smiles from my family i get are worth the most, so a T-shirt is good for me (I'm a very simple person)
