Using the router manual, log in to it's configuration. In admin set a password for the admin logon. Then in wireless security set up either wpa or 128 bit wep encryption. Use the pc wireless utility to search for your network, set encryption and connect. Hiding the ssid does not help security and can cause problems if you have any pc trouble. Also mac address filtering does not stop anyone from watching your transmissions in clear, giving away personal information. Again this causes problems when things go wrong, so don't bother with either of these. I have actually logged into hidden ssid networks to prove how useless this is.

Make it a secure wireless connection. WAP 2 is best but you should at least enable WEP. This can be done through the wireless router's web interface. It will give you a passkey that you can use on computers you want to have access to the wireless.

There are 2 techniques to sidestep a common WiFi person from gaining get admission to on your broadband: (a million) allowing under pressure equivalent privateness (WEP), meant to offer comparable confidentiality to a common under pressure community (especially it would not defend clientele of the community from one yet another), subsequently the call. (2) Configure the router to settle for in common terms particular MAC addresses from gaining access to the router. keep in mind that that's no longer a hundred% risk-free practices against an extremely-experienced hacker. utilising WEP keys and MAC addresses is basically to maintain out the daily instant clientele.

go through your wireless router and set up an encrypted network.
That will prevent people from being able to connect and use your wireless services.

WELL, IT IS SIMPLE! TYPE 192.168.1.1 OR 192.168.2.1 OR 192.168.0.1 IN YOUR WEB BROWSER AND YOU WILL GET THE ROUTER'S MAIN PAGE! FROM THERE, YOU CAN CONFIGURE IT! GO TO THE SECURITY TAB OR ENCRYPTION OR WHATEVER YOU HAVE AND ENABLE SECURITY! PUT IN A WPA OR WPA 2 PARAPHRASE OR A WEP ENCRYPTION FROM THERE AND THERE YOU GO!
IF THE ROUTER'S MAIN PAGE ASKS FOR PASSWORD WHEN U TRY TO ACCESS, PUT IN admin for password and admin for username! if you changed it, then you know it!
FOR SPECIAL EFFECTS, I WOULD PUT IN A JAVASCRIPT ALERT FOR THE NEIGHBOURS WHEN THEY CONNECT THAT WILL SAY GO GET YOUR OWN INTERNET OR WHATEVER! USE YOUR IMAGINATION!
HOPE IT HELPED!

You need to secure your network. Install a Firewall .Call your provider and get them to secure. If someone can access your Connection, there is the possibilty to access your PC.
