my baby is the same age and doing the same thing!!! I asked my ped about it the otherday and was told basically to feed her what it is you want her to have first, (and made how she likes it, as lumpy as she likes) as her meal, so breakfast say cereal and fruit, when she is finished and you have your breakfast, include her by giving her some of yours (whatever it is you have eg: toast) lunch say veggies then some of what u have, dinner say veggies, meat, and dessert of maybe fruit or custard, and after when u have pasta she can have some and be included with the family. at thsi age they can have anything you have as long as small so not a chocking or allergy risk for your baby. but cows milk if used in the meal is fine, pasta, meat, toast, all of it ok, if in little bits, as long as you offer the good main meal food first. then shell only be getting little bits of what you have so not a problem, more of a taste and a test rather than a meal. I also asked about food being boreing, but babies generally dont mind having the same food every day, because after milk all the time this is great!
this has worked for me so far, so worht a try.
make sure you still offer her, her regualr milk though (breast or formula) and try to add some to the meal you want her to have becase it tastes good to babies and they are more inclined to eat it (even mixed with meat or veggies, my girl still likes it)
babies wont eat more than they can handle,so they wont overfeed themselves. they can become unheatlhy though if they are not offered the right food on a whole, so the main food eated should be 'good', food.
its all learning righ now, so sounds like you are doing great offering 'real' food not jars and letting her try to feed herself sometimes too, also, keepijg it healthy and a good variety!!! so keep it up!!ou really are doing great!!
I just found a link that is really good and may help you

I agree with not wanting to feed commercially prepared food, its an expense that if you are at home and cooking anyway its not needed.

At 8 months old she is still probably getting control of teh hand to mouth action and pincher grasp, you are giving her practice at both skills which is GREAT!!

I fed my daughter just about everything I ate but obviosly cut in small bit size peices. Cheese, bread, toast, tiny peices of meat, small soft veggies, biter biscuits, graps cut very small, same as apples and really any fruit other than citrus. cheerio's is a favorite of the young ones, and its almost choke free due to its small size and teh hole in the middle.

If she has not yet had meat at this point be cautious, it has a texture that some babies like others cannot stand it. Some meat is also naturally stringy so be careful there. Hot dogs shoudl be spidered and cut small. grapes in quarters at a minimun.

if you are adding in something new that she has never had than do not add anything new for at least 4 days afterwards so if an allergy occurs you will have abetter idea as to its cause.

My son is 13 months and about the same age as your daughter i gave him the gerber graduates and stage 3 foods and then some foods that i would eat at lunch or dinner. Just make sure the pieces arent too big or to hard.

My 9 month old daughter had white chicken chili and cornbread with my husband and I last night.

I just mashed it up with a fork so it wasn't too lumpy and she loved it!

She didn't even mind the green chili's and onion.

I would just give her whatever you are having, within reason, or make her some well cooked noodles with a little butter on them if you are having something that she can't really eat yet.

If you're up for it, you can make your own baby food, only don't puree it quite as much as regular baby food. I'd say continue to give her whatever y'all are eating. Babies LOVE to suck on corn cobs that someone else has already eaten all the corn off of. You can feed her pureed fruit or veggies and shredded chicken. Good luck and she's going to be a very healthy baby for eating real food, rather that the crap they sell at the grocery store.

I prefer to cook also, id keep doing what you are doing, you do run out of ideas i agree but you run out of ideas for yourself too, so what do we do ? i might try and get some baby recipe books from the library to try, you could give that a go too. Take care and godbless. xx

fromage frais with mashed banana was a favourite with my kids at that age. fish with no bones. casseroles with no added salt, like chicken or sausage. mince and dumplings. and another favourite was pasta dishes, sometimes with just grated cheese and chopped fresh tomatoes. its filling and very healthy. feeding time can be stressful can't it?

Just continue to give her what you have!! Even chilli and curry - just make sure hers is less seasoned! Much better than jars or processed stuff anyhow, although they have their place when you are out and about.
