If you have a small income, and can speak Spanish. Costa Rica is a place to start. Located between Panama and Nicaragua, the Capital city of San Jose is OK, but there are the most beautiful places there. Not much of the crap going on there like it was in years past when the Nicaraguan Civil War(when Ronald Reagan
and his Iran-Contra Affair) spilled over into Costa Rica. There are still remnants of rebel forces, in the almost inaccessible places. What I'm saying is there is not much to worry about. Safer there than in many places right here in the US. Have a Good One!! PS
You probably wouldn't even think about the net for a while!!

old china in beijing - it's lovely, i went for a holiday, i could live there for the rest of my life. people are humble, everything's cheap, it's kind of the "simple life", nobody cares what you do, the locals are friendly, you can make friends there and l'd honestly have no problem finding ways to spend my days. and of course, the actual city is only 10 minutes away by train, so if you got sick of old china, the new age china is only a short ride away.
and of course, i'd be able to learn another language + no feel guilty about living "off the grid" and if i needed money, theres heaps of kish-cash involved in teaching english.
not a bad life!

If I left the United States I would consider either Poland or Ireland. I know several retired people who went to Poland and have found it a very nice place to live.
If I stayed in the U.S. I think I would be inclined to go to West Texas, preferably somewhere north of Fort Stockton. I like Wyoming, but don't like Wyoming winters.

I'd go in search of a deserted island somewhere in the South Pacific and begin a life there.

considering you have to pay for sattilite internet your not really off the grid, (also have to undergoe a credit check which really puts you on the grid). Its easy to rip off sattilite TV but extremely difficult to do it with internet.
